Class 40 locomotive cab arrives at Cynheidre

Today saw a new arrival at the railway with the cab of Class 40 no. 40088 arriving on behalf of the Cab Yard after purchase from The Class 40 Preservation Society. It will be on display at this weekends open day. The cab was removed from the rest of the loco when it was scrapped at Crewe Loco Works in November 1988, having been withdrawn from traffic in February 1982, at a time when most of the class were being removed from service in quick succession.

We are always looking at ways to make our offering different. So when this fully fitted Class 40 locomotive cab became available, we just had to have it!

Purchased by our sub-group the Cab Yard from the Class 40 Preservation Society, it will provide us with the opportunity to promote our railway on the road at places such as community events, where we can promote our project and things such as rail safety and the benefits of volunteering and working in rail. Keep an eye out for it in South Wales and beyond! #community#opportunity#charity
