St. Elli Shopping Centre, Llanelli Information Stand
The Llanelli and Mynydd Mawr Railway held an information stand at the St. Elli Shopping Centre, Llanelli on Saturday 24th February 2018 which was well received by the public. It was the first such stall to be held by the charity and following such a positive response it is likely that future stands will be held during 2018.
Volunteers handed out flyers advertising volunteering opportunities at the project and spent time chatting with interested members of the public about the project. Details were also handed out about the next open day at the Cynheidre Heritage Centre, which will be an Easter open day on Saturday 31st March 2018 from 11am until 4pm.
The railway will be open for train rides behind recently arrived ex-Dutch railways 0-6-0 Class 600 diesel locomotive no. NS690. Train rides will be carried out using the railway’s buffet carriage, which will be in service with passengers for the first time. The buffet carriage will also include ‘on the move’ refreshments.
Children’s tickets for that event are priced £5 for ages 3-16 years (which includes an all day rover ticket and a clue filled Easter trail with a chocolate egg included per child), adults cost £4 (all day rover ticket included) and children under 3 years go free including the rover and trail (with the option of buying a chocolate egg for £2). All day rover ticket includes unlimited train rides per ticket. There is free entry to the site with free parking available, as well as access to the heritage centre and the main stock shed. All proceeds from the event will go towards improving the site for future events.
There will also be a new volunteer recruitment stand available at the railway at the Easter event. With several more events planned throughout 2018, the railway would be grateful for any additional volunteers to assist the project to move forward.
